Love is friendship that catches fire; it takes root and grows one day at a time. Infatuation is marked by a feeling of insecurity; you are excited and eager, but not genuinely happy; there are nagging doubts, unanswered questions; little bits and pieces about your beloved that you would just as soon not examine too closely.
Infatuation does not last. It can be the start of something real, a love that grows, but this growth takes effort. To build the structure for something more concrete than a flirtation or a fling means focusing on the foundation of the relationship. This foundation piece creates the climate for trust and love to grow. It requires work, not magic, not fairy tales. Not the roller coaster love of early infatuation, but a mature love of respect, understanding & mutual admiration.
Commitment does not end on the day you say "I do". Commitment is more than a promise, more than a one-time decision. It is an ongoing focus on your relationship & make it a priority. Trust is the sum of hundreds of everyday experiences that affect the ability to connect with another. Little things. Things like keeping promises, showing up on time and not criticizing when angry. All the "I should've", "I would've", "I could've" of broken promises and commitments should cease because they are not impressive at all. One should always look at what people do and not what they say.
